Narrative:
Friday afternoon, decided to take aircraft for a flight (tgif). While monitoring unicom, heard the call numbers of a similar aircraft based at the local airport. Bubbling with enthusiasm, I initiated radio call, 'rv on downwind, why don't you turn out over the lake' hoping for some air-to- air companionship. In the next few mins several events occurred. The aircraft I called did turn out of the pattern and headed over the lake. I heard but did not link to the situation a radio transmission, 'rv please stay clear I am giving an instrument check ride.' interpreting the turnout of the pattern as an invitation, I maneuvered my aircraft to pull alongside his. In the process of doing this I received hand signals directing me to turn away. This I did with no delay realizing I had maneuvered alongside a friend receiving a flight check and that the request to stay clear had been directed at me, and I had unintentionally disregarded it. I'm sure the examiner was furious. I called the other pilot within the hour to apologize and in this case to congratulate him on a new rating. A lesson learned! 22 yrs, 10300 hours, no accidents or incidents -- but still trying to learn how to prevent slips like this.

Title: RPTR IN A HOMEBUILT RV TRIES TO GET ANOTHER RV TO PLAY WITH HIM, UNAWARE THE PLT OF THE SECOND RV IS RECEIVING AN FAA CHK RIDE.
Narrative: FRIDAY AFTERNOON, DECIDED TO TAKE ACFT FOR A FLT (TGIF). WHILE MONITORING UNICOM, HEARD THE CALL NUMBERS OF A SIMILAR ACFT BASED AT THE LCL ARPT. BUBBLING WITH ENTHUSIASM, I INITIATED RADIO CALL, 'RV ON DOWNWIND, WHY DON'T YOU TURN OUT OVER THE LAKE' HOPING FOR SOME AIR-TO- AIR COMPANIONSHIP. IN THE NEXT FEW MINS SEVERAL EVENTS OCCURRED. THE ACFT I CALLED DID TURN OUT OF THE PATTERN AND HEADED OVER THE LAKE. I HEARD BUT DID NOT LINK TO THE SIT A RADIO XMISSION, 'RV PLEASE STAY CLR I AM GIVING AN INST CHK RIDE.' INTERPRETING THE TURNOUT OF THE PATTERN AS AN INVITATION, I MANEUVERED MY ACFT TO PULL ALONGSIDE HIS. IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THIS I RECEIVED HAND SIGNALS DIRECTING ME TO TURN AWAY. THIS I DID WITH NO DELAY REALIZING I HAD MANEUVERED ALONGSIDE A FRIEND RECEIVING A FLT CHK AND THAT THE REQUEST TO STAY CLR HAD BEEN DIRECTED AT ME, AND I HAD UNINTENTIONALLY DISREGARDED IT. I'M SURE THE EXAMINER WAS FURIOUS. I CALLED THE OTHER PLT WITHIN THE HR TO APOLOGIZE AND IN THIS CASE TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON A NEW RATING. A LESSON LEARNED! 22 YRS, 10300 HRS, NO ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS -- BUT STILL TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO PREVENT SLIPS LIKE THIS.
