Narrative:
Contract labor guideman parking training in progress. Lady stopped us short of parking spot. I set brakes and flicked off seat belt sign (habit) and shut down right engine. Gate agent waving and said plane needed to come forward, as gate jet bridge wouldn't move, so plane door could open. Ground man asked if I wanted to taxi forward, or be towed forward. Plane light so I decided to ease forward about 18 inches. After doing so I suddenly realized that the passenger were standing and I had turned off the seat belt sign. In all the confusion I forgot that I had done this. Had I hit the tow bar, or brakes hard, and someone fell and injured, the consequences could have been serious!
