Narrative:

Shortly after departure on a routine revenue flight, we returned to the airport (dfw) without incident. The return was due to the fact that we inadvertently departed without sufficient fuel. Supplemental information from acn 354433: took over aircraft after swap. First officer preflted. Both did cockpit checks but failed to notice that aircraft had not been refueled to trip requirement. After taxi out and takeoff realized shortage and immediately requested return to refuel. Aircraft had well in excess of minimums so no danger posed. Just inconvenience. During predep phase we had problems with passenger boarding and loading which probably caused distraction. Also we had expected aircraft to have already been fueled. I recognize possibility of 'seeing but not seeing.' have counseled both first officer and self to avoid repeat.

Title: RETURN LAND IN SF34 MANDATED BY INSUFFICIENT FUEL ON BOARD.

Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER DEP ON A ROUTINE REVENUE FLT, WE RETURNED TO THE ARPT (DFW) WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE RETURN WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE INADVERTENTLY DEPARTED WITHOUT SUFFICIENT FUEL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 354433: TOOK OVER ACFT AFTER SWAP. FO PREFLTED. BOTH DID COCKPIT CHKS BUT FAILED TO NOTICE THAT ACFT HAD NOT BEEN REFUELED TO TRIP REQUIREMENT. AFTER TAXI OUT AND TKOF REALIZED SHORTAGE AND IMMEDIATELY REQUESTED RETURN TO REFUEL. ACFT HAD WELL IN EXCESS OF MINIMUMS SO NO DANGER POSED. JUST INCONVENIENCE. DURING PREDEP PHASE WE HAD PROBS WITH PAX BOARDING AND LOADING WHICH PROBABLY CAUSED DISTR. ALSO WE HAD EXPECTED ACFT TO HAVE ALREADY BEEN FUELED. I RECOGNIZE POSSIBILITY OF 'SEEING BUT NOT SEEING.' HAVE COUNSELED BOTH FO AND SELF TO AVOID REPEAT.
