Narrative:
We ferried from utx, fl, on friday and stopped at ism to refuel early as there was WX ahead. On this date there was only unicom control. We continued our ferry on to modesto, ca. 2 weeks later, when we returned back to utx, we stopped at tlh to refuel. Upon leaving tlh we did not plan to stop at ism and refuel as the winds looked favorable to go all the way. We got a WX briefing but did not ask for and receive a briefing on NOTAM for ism as we did not plan to land there. Upon arriving over ism we found that our fuel was going to be short for the complete flight to utx, so we landed for fuel. The PNF called ism unicom and progressive reports coming in. We did not call the AWOS as the WX was clear. Upon landing we noticed there were people in the control tower. We talked to the tower and found out that the tower was activated that morning for the anticipated traffic coming in for the convention. If the tower could have only monitored the unicom frequency they could have alerted incoming traffic. There was never any danger to any and all aircraft as we landed on a non used runway taxiway. We did land without tower approval.

Title: HELI CREW FAILED TO CHK NOTAMS AND LANDED WITHOUT CONTACTING A TEMPORARY TWR THAT HAD JUST BEEN ACTIVATED.
Narrative: WE FERRIED FROM UTX, FL, ON FRIDAY AND STOPPED AT ISM TO REFUEL EARLY AS THERE WAS WX AHEAD. ON THIS DATE THERE WAS ONLY UNICOM CTL. WE CONTINUED OUR FERRY ON TO MODESTO, CA. 2 WKS LATER, WHEN WE RETURNED BACK TO UTX, WE STOPPED AT TLH TO REFUEL. UPON ARRIVING OVER ISM WE FOUND THAT OUR FUEL WAS GOING TO BE SHORT FOR THE COMPLETE FLT TO UTX, SO WE LANDED FOR FUEL. THE PNF CALLED ISM UNICOM AND PROGRESSIVE RPTS COMING IN. WE DID NOT CALL THE AWOS AS THE WX WAS CLR. UPON LNDG WE NOTICED THERE WERE PEOPLE IN THE CTL TWR. WE TALKED TO THE TWR AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TWR WAS ACTIVATED THAT MORNING FOR THE ANTICIPATED TFC COMING IN FOR THE CONVENTION. IF THE TWR COULD HAVE ONLY MONITORED THE UNICOM FREQ THEY COULD HAVE ALERTED INCOMING TFC. THERE WAS NEVER ANY DANGER TO ANY AND ALL ACFT AS WE LANDED ON A NON USED RWY TXWY. WE DID LAND WITHOUT TWR APPROVAL.
