Narrative:
During descent into dfw on the bonham one arrival (a relatively new procedure) center issued the dfw altimeter of 30.50 to us out of approximately FL230. Our company procedure is to not reset the altimeter until leaving FL180 while descending. At that time I was off getting the ATIS. Returning, I immediately went back to studying the new arrival and forgot to call for the altimeters to be reset from 29.92 to 30.50. The captain was listening to something on the ADF (am talk radio) while inbound to dfw and this must of also affected my timing of the altimeter reset procedure. We caught the mistake about 15 mi from the airport and descended the aircraft to the proper altitude. At no time did we come in conflict with other traffic as we were higher than instructed (dfw runs departures below arrs). At no time did ATC inform us that our altitude indicated higher than reported.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALTDEV ALT UNDERSHOT IN DSCNT APCH PROC STAR DSCNT. WRONG ALT SETTING PROC. NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC PROC.
Narrative: DURING DSCNT INTO DFW ON THE BONHAM ONE ARR (A RELATIVELY NEW PROC) CTR ISSUED THE DFW ALTIMETER OF 30.50 TO US OUT OF APPROX FL230. OUR COMPANY PROC IS TO NOT RESET THE ALTIMETER UNTIL LEAVING FL180 WHILE DSNDING. AT THAT TIME I WAS OFF GETTING THE ATIS. RETURNING, I IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO STUDYING THE NEW ARR AND FORGOT TO CALL FOR THE ALTIMETERS TO BE RESET FROM 29.92 TO 30.50. THE CAPT WAS LISTENING TO SOMETHING ON THE ADF (AM TALK RADIO) WHILE INBOUND TO DFW AND THIS MUST OF ALSO AFFECTED MY TIMING OF THE ALTIMETER RESET PROC. WE CAUGHT THE MISTAKE ABOUT 15 MI FROM THE ARPT AND DSNDED THE ACFT TO THE PROPER ALT. AT NO TIME DID WE COME IN CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC AS WE WERE HIGHER THAN INSTRUCTED (DFW RUNS DEPS BELOW ARRS). AT NO TIME DID ATC INFORM US THAT OUR ALT INDICATED HIGHER THAN RPTED.
