Narrative:

During descent from FL410 on lendy 4 arrival to jfk, was cleared to cross lendy at FL190 and 250 KTS. First officer was flying aircraft and programming FMC for a VOR-DME approach to runway 22L at jfk. As PNF I was handling communications, cabin PA and checklist. Passing through FL200 I prematurely set the center and captain's altimeter to local barometer (30.40). Procedure and my normal habit pattern is to reset the altimeters at transition altitude (FL180). The aircraft was leveled at FL186 as first officer recognized the error. Altimeters were reset to 29.92 and the aircraft returned to FL190. ATC made no mention of the altitude overshoot.
