Narrative:
Had just completed landing and rollout runway 18 dca. We exited runway to the right on what we thought was taxiway. Ground control informed us we were between txwys. The area was black asphalt. At night, especially during rainy conditions, it is extremely difficult to discern txwys. Painted line markings were not visible. Should be repainted so they are visible at night during inclement WX. No damage occurred.
