Narrative:
On my preflight inspection of the aircraft maintenance logbook, I noted a gripe written by the previous crew that the autoplt was 'very sensitive.' it was my fourth flight as a flight engineer and to me, the writeup sounded like an information only writeup, and maintenance would wait until the end of the day to do anything since it was not imperative to safe flight. I notified the captain of the gripe during the before start checklist under 'logbook.' he told me at that time that the previous captain debriefed him about the jerky autoplt, so I did not show him the logbook. At the completion of the rotation(3 flts later), I wrote up an additional gripe and showed him the logbook to see if he had any additional input. It was then that he brought it to my attention that the sensitive autoplt was not signed off. I told the captain that I thought it was just an information only input. He informed me that anything and everything must be signed off before we fly.

Title: B727 CREW FLEW TRIP WITH AN OPEN LOGBOOK ITEM WHEN A NEW SO FAILED TO NOTE THAT THE ITEM SHOULD BE CLRED BY MAINT.
Narrative: ON MY PREFLT INSPECTION OF THE ACFT MAINT LOGBOOK, I NOTED A GRIPE WRITTEN BY THE PREVIOUS CREW THAT THE AUTOPLT WAS 'VERY SENSITIVE.' IT WAS MY FOURTH FLT AS A FE AND TO ME, THE WRITEUP SOUNDED LIKE AN INFO ONLY WRITEUP, AND MAINT WOULD WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY TO DO ANYTHING SINCE IT WAS NOT IMPERATIVE TO SAFE FLT. I NOTIFIED THE CAPT OF THE GRIPE DURING THE BEFORE START CHKLIST UNDER 'LOGBOOK.' HE TOLD ME AT THAT TIME THAT THE PREVIOUS CAPT DEBRIEFED HIM ABOUT THE JERKY AUTOPLT, SO I DID NOT SHOW HIM THE LOGBOOK. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE ROTATION(3 FLTS LATER), I WROTE UP AN ADDITIONAL GRIPE AND SHOWED HIM THE LOGBOOK TO SEE IF HE HAD ANY ADDITIONAL INPUT. IT WAS THEN THAT HE BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTN THAT THE SENSITIVE AUTOPLT WAS NOT SIGNED OFF. I TOLD THE CAPT THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST AN INFO ONLY INPUT. HE INFORMED ME THAT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING MUST BE SIGNED OFF BEFORE WE FLY.
