Narrative:

We were on the civet arrival to lax. We contacted approach control and they cleared us for the ILS runway 25L and said we were slightly north of localizer. As we corrected back to the localizer we also tracked on the GS. This may have put us slightly below the altitude restrs on the ILS runway 25L approach plate. It would be helpful if the altitude restr more than 25 mi out would be shown on the civet arrival. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the first officer was flying the aircraft and using the VOR for navigation. They were cleared 100 mi out to track on the localizer. First officer used VOR for tracking as localizer was unreliable that far out. Captain was just about to take it from first officer when they were given vectors to the localizer as they got closer to the airport. Since they were not on localizer, the captain feared they might be low somewhere during the approach, therefore, he submitted an ASRS report. He is just not certain if he was lower than allowed somewhere along the approach. Reporter was flying an MD88 aircraft.

Narrative: WE WERE ON THE CIVET ARR TO LAX. WE CONTACTED APCH CTL AND THEY CLRED US FOR THE ILS RWY 25L AND SAID WE WERE SLIGHTLY N OF LOC. AS WE CORRECTED BACK TO THE LOC WE ALSO TRACKED ON THE GS. THIS MAY HAVE PUT US SLIGHTLY BELOW THE ALT RESTRS ON THE ILS RWY 25L APCH PLATE. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF THE ALT RESTR MORE THAN 25 MI OUT WOULD BE SHOWN ON THE CIVET ARR. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE FO WAS FLYING THE ACFT AND USING THE VOR FOR NAV. THEY WERE CLRED 100 MI OUT TO TRACK ON THE LOC. FO USED VOR FOR TRACKING AS LOC WAS UNRELIABLE THAT FAR OUT. CAPT WAS JUST ABOUT TO TAKE IT FROM FO WHEN THEY WERE GIVEN VECTORS TO THE LOC AS THEY GOT CLOSER TO THE ARPT. SINCE THEY WERE NOT ON LOC, THE CAPT FEARED THEY MIGHT BE LOW SOMEWHERE DURING THE APCH, THEREFORE, HE SUBMITTED AN ASRS RPT. HE IS JUST NOT CERTAIN IF HE WAS LOWER THAN ALLOWED SOMEWHERE ALONG THE APCH. RPTR WAS FLYING AN MD88 ACFT.
