Narrative:
We were on the ILS to runway 4R with a clearance to circle to runway 13C, set in the altitude window was 4000 ft, which was our last assigned altitude before intercepting the ILS. After intercepting the ILS to runway 4R I engaged 'approach mode' but did not reset the missed approach altitude of 2600 ft in the altitude window. We broke out at about 2000 ft and started to circle to runway 13C. On the ILS to runway 4R we had a 15-20 KT tailwind and as we circled to the left for runway 13C, the tailwind now became a crosswind which put us in a position that was a little tight on the airport. I decided to miss the approach since the WX was also starting to come down. I pressed the toga button while the first officer called the tower for the miss. We received 3 heading changes and were climbing at 4500 FPM (aircraft was light). Before I realized we were back up to 4000 ft (setting in altitude window). We then descended to our missed approach altitude of 2600 ft.

Title: ACR MLG ON RWY 4R ILS MDW PLAN CIRCLE TO RWY 13C. 4000 FT SET IN ALT WINDOW. VISUAL AT 2000 FT AND BEGAN THE CIRCLE FOR L DOWNWIND RWY 13C. STRONG XWIND GOT TOO CLOSE TO THE ARPT AND FLC ELECTED TO GAR. MISSED APCH ALT 2600 FT BUT DUE TO HIGH PERFORMANCE AND THE WRONG ALT SET IN THE ALERTER, GOT TO 4000 FT. CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY.
Narrative: WE WERE ON THE ILS TO RWY 4R WITH A CLRNC TO CIRCLE TO RWY 13C, SET IN THE ALT WINDOW WAS 4000 FT, WHICH WAS OUR LAST ASSIGNED ALT BEFORE INTERCEPTING THE ILS. AFTER INTERCEPTING THE ILS TO RWY 4R I ENGAGED 'APCH MODE' BUT DID NOT RESET THE MISSED APCH ALT OF 2600 FT IN THE ALT WINDOW. WE BROKE OUT AT ABOUT 2000 FT AND STARTED TO CIRCLE TO RWY 13C. ON THE ILS TO RWY 4R WE HAD A 15-20 KT TAILWIND AND AS WE CIRCLED TO THE L FOR RWY 13C, THE TAILWIND NOW BECAME A XWIND WHICH PUT US IN A POS THAT WAS A LITTLE TIGHT ON THE ARPT. I DECIDED TO MISS THE APCH SINCE THE WX WAS ALSO STARTING TO COME DOWN. I PRESSED THE TOGA BUTTON WHILE THE FO CALLED THE TWR FOR THE MISS. WE RECEIVED 3 HDG CHANGES AND WERE CLBING AT 4500 FPM (ACFT WAS LIGHT). BEFORE I REALIZED WE WERE BACK UP TO 4000 FT (SETTING IN ALT WINDOW). WE THEN DSNDED TO OUR MISSED APCH ALT OF 2600 FT.
