Narrative:

Atl to lax with a stop in msy. First officer flew msy-lax leg with a civet 1 arrival to approach and landing on runway 25L in lax. Approach brief by first officer included plan to exit on high speed taxiway M for short taxi into lax gate. Approach and landing were normal and I assumed control of aircraft from first officer at approximately 80 KIAS and commenced a turn onto taxiway M. Lax tower issued instructions to hold short of runway 25R which I heard and the first officer acknowledged. The aircraft had more ground speed than I at first realized and in trying to stop smoothly, the nose of the aircraft passed over the runway 25R stop bar. The first officer repeated hold short instructions as I stopped the aircraft before it entered runway 25R. Lax tower aborted a light aircraft as it was beginning its takeoff roll, and then asked for confirmation of our hold short instructions which we acknowledged. Remainder of taxi in uneventful.

LAX TWR ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25R WHICH I HEARD AND THE FO ACKNOWLEDGED.
