Narrative:

End of a long day, copilot missed mandatory turn to 355 degree heading at olivv intersection. I assumed he was going to turn. We realized (just prior to the turn) that we needed to accomplish the approach checklist. As I started to read the checklist, I looked at our position and realized we were 1 mi past our turn point. I told the copilot to turn and at this point the approach controller told us to turn to 050 degrees, which we did. Controller said we had traffic 2 mi off our left. In hindsight, I realize one of us should have verbalized that we needed to turn at the intersection, and if the PF doesn't brief the mandatory items on a STAR (or SID, or approach) the PNF should point these items out. Because the PF was very professional, I assumed he knew he had to turn and therefore didn't say anything. Then when I was distraction, we flew past the turn point. Supplemental information from acn 359736: I was familiar with the approach but had overlooked the turn to heading 355 degrees at the mem 123 degree radial, 8 DME fix. We were completing the last items of the approach checklist at 10 DME. The captain realized I missed the turn and initiated it at approximately 7 DME. Then approach control gave us an immediate turn to 050 degrees and then right back to 355 degrees. The target was on TCASII but never touched the 2 mi ring. There was never a TCASII alert or advisory. Remainder of flight normal.
