Narrative:

Depressurization problem after icing conditions. Time: XA00Z. ATC frequency: ZFW. Location: dfw/080/150. We had a flow light come on at 150 NM east of dfw at FL260 just after exiting icing conditions. We followed emergency procedures and declared an emergency at FL200 in the descent. Only by going to manual pressurization did it finally arrest the cabin altitude from climbing. Cabin rose from 4200 to 7000 at its highest. We had dispatch have emergency technicians on standby alert at the gate in case of ear problems. No passenger, and only 1 flight attendant complained of any ear discomfort. Flight attendant continued on sequence. As a side note of importance, first officer performed in an outstanding manner throughout this procedure. First officer handled himself commendably running the checklist, coordinating with the flight attendants, talking with dispatch, and most importantly, handling the manual pressurization schedule on an MD80 and keeping the cabin pressure from reaching 10000 ft. He certainly deserves an attaboy. Supplemental information from acn 359727: at FL260 with wing and engine ai on, flow light came on and cabin altitude was climbing. QRH procedures yielded only temporary relief. Declared emergency, descended and manual control selected. Cleared direct to dfw at 10000 ft and landed runway 17L without further incident. Emt called to meet flight for possible physical problems with passenger and crew. None noted upon arrival.
