Narrative:
On landing rollout, tower cleared us (I think) to cross runway 36R. I read that back, and we crossed runway 36R. After crossing, tower asked if we were cleared, and we said yes. It was only after he asked, that it occurred to me that he might have said 'hold short' instead of 'cross.' on more than 1 occasion in my flying experience, I have been given taxi instructions by tower during landing rollout, which is probably one of the most busy times in flying. When you have your hands full with flying the airplane, xferring aircraft control, etc, it's easy to miss a call or misinterpret a call. Perhaps controllers could wait till after we are slowed to near taxi speed (if possible) to give us instructions. I know they have a lot to think about, too, but it's just a thought. In the meantime, I'll be reading back any clearance I'm not absolutely sure of.

Title: POSSIBLE UNAUTH RWY XING ENTRY OP. CLRNC INTERP READBACK HEARBACK DURING LNDG PROC ROLLOUT.
Narrative: ON LNDG ROLLOUT, TWR CLRED US (I THINK) TO CROSS RWY 36R. I READ THAT BACK, AND WE CROSSED RWY 36R. AFTER XING, TWR ASKED IF WE WERE CLRED, AND WE SAID YES. IT WAS ONLY AFTER HE ASKED, THAT IT OCCURRED TO ME THAT HE MIGHT HAVE SAID 'HOLD SHORT' INSTEAD OF 'CROSS.' ON MORE THAN 1 OCCASION IN MY FLYING EXPERIENCE, I HAVE BEEN GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS BY TWR DURING LNDG ROLLOUT, WHICH IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST BUSY TIMES IN FLYING. WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR HANDS FULL WITH FLYING THE AIRPLANE, XFERRING ACFT CTL, ETC, IT'S EASY TO MISS A CALL OR MISINTERPRET A CALL. PERHAPS CTLRS COULD WAIT TILL AFTER WE ARE SLOWED TO NEAR TAXI SPD (IF POSSIBLE) TO GIVE US INSTRUCTIONS. I KNOW THEY HAVE A LOT TO THINK ABOUT, TOO, BUT IT'S JUST A THOUGHT. IN THE MEANTIME, I'LL BE READING BACK ANY CLRNC I'M NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE OF.
