Narrative:
We were ending an instructional hour by flying from jvy to lou. Lou tower told us to enter right downwind for runway 24. I've flown this short hop 100 times, but always to right base entry when runway 24 is in use. So the right downwind entry was most unusual, but we flew a path to make the entry. Bowman tower advised we were nearing sdf class C airspace. I replied that complying with a right downwind entry just couldn't work and asked for right base entry, which was approved. I'm not sure if we entered sdf class C airspace, but I know that, once warned, we made every effort to exit the area. Safety was not compromised. I think the controller who gave us a right downwind entry made a mistake. I know I will decline such an entry in the future. With the class C confign around sdf, a standard right downwind entry cannot be flown properly.

Title: WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR OF A PLT TRAINING FLT IN A PA38 ATTEMPTED TO COMPLY WITH THE TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO ENTER A R DOWNWIND LEG FOR THE RWY, THEY WERE SUBSEQUENTLY ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NEARING CLASS C AIRSPACE! THEREFORE, THE RPTR ASKED FOR, AND RECEIVED, CLRNC FOR A R BASE ENTRY IN LIEU OF A DOWNWIND ENTRY.
Narrative: WE WERE ENDING AN INSTRUCTIONAL HR BY FLYING FROM JVY TO LOU. LOU TWR TOLD US TO ENTER R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 24. I'VE FLOWN THIS SHORT HOP 100 TIMES, BUT ALWAYS TO R BASE ENTRY WHEN RWY 24 IS IN USE. SO THE R DOWNWIND ENTRY WAS MOST UNUSUAL, BUT WE FLEW A PATH TO MAKE THE ENTRY. BOWMAN TWR ADVISED WE WERE NEARING SDF CLASS C AIRSPACE. I REPLIED THAT COMPLYING WITH A R DOWNWIND ENTRY JUST COULDN'T WORK AND ASKED FOR R BASE ENTRY, WHICH WAS APPROVED. I'M NOT SURE IF WE ENTERED SDF CLASS C AIRSPACE, BUT I KNOW THAT, ONCE WARNED, WE MADE EVERY EFFORT TO EXIT THE AREA. SAFETY WAS NOT COMPROMISED. I THINK THE CTLR WHO GAVE US A R DOWNWIND ENTRY MADE A MISTAKE. I KNOW I WILL DECLINE SUCH AN ENTRY IN THE FUTURE. WITH THE CLASS C CONFIGN AROUND SDF, A STANDARD R DOWNWIND ENTRY CANNOT BE FLOWN PROPERLY.
