Narrative:

Not being familiar or experienced with mountain waves actions, the aircraft all of a sudden climbed. We gained 500 ft. I brought the power back to flight idle and pitch down the airspeed -- overspd warning went off. I got the aircraft back under control and at our assigned altitude. There were no conflicts or alerts. There also was no mention of an altitude bust by the controllers -- the WX at the time was IMC and turbulent in the colorado/new mexico area. There also was severe up and downdrafts in the clouds.
