Narrative:
After taking off on runway 24L (lax), just passing by 2700 ft we had a TCASII resolution that came in a completely logical manner. First it alerted us about traffic just above us, then came, 'descend now,' as we were descending passing by 1700 ft came 'increase your descent.' we stopped the descent at more or less 800 ft after being sure that no traffic was above us. ATC was informed by us, but didn't understand until another airplane told him that we have had a TCASII resolution. TCASII malfunction was reported on the maintenance logbook.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE FLC OF A LGT ACR ACFT RPTS THAT THEY RECEIVED A FALSE TCASII 'RA' DURING THEIR CLBOUT FROM LAX. AFTER THEY HAD DSNDED TO 800 FT MSL AND BEING UNABLE TO ACQUIRE THE TFC THEY REALIZED THAT THIS WAS PROBABLY A FALSE WARNING.
