Narrative:
ZDV cleared us to cross ALS at FL200 and 280 KTS. The descent was started too late, actually crossing ALS at FL215 and 340 KTS. It was obvious at the start of the descent we wouldn't make it, so I asked the captain to ask center for help on this. He said push the nose over and we can do it. A lot of distraction, continuous discussion by the captain of a previous mechanical problem he could just not let go of for a min. I was kept busy and lost my concentration on the descent clearance.
