Narrative:
Approach control cleared us to cross snydr intersection at 7000 ft and turn right to 130 degrees at snydr. Just as we started the turn, the TCASII displayed a brief TA (yellow) immediately followed by an RA (red) to climb. At that time the target was at 800 ft and closing. We made a maximum climb to 8000 ft and the target came within 400 ft, when we were at 7800 ft. The TCASII then announced 'clear of conflict' and we descended to 7000 ft. ATC didn't seem to be aware of our climb or the conflict when we relayed the information on the radio. They were unaware of the conflict on the followup telephone call.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG IN IMC AT 7000 FT GOT A TCASII RA FROM ANOTHER ACR ACFT 800 FT LOWER AND CLBING. RPTR CLBED TO 8000 FT. ATC CLAIMED THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE CONFLICT. POSSIBILITIES ARE THAT RPTR WAS BENEATH ASSIGNED ALT OR ACFT Y WAS ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT OR ATC ASSIGNED AN ACFT THE WRONG ALT.
Narrative: APCH CTL CLRED US TO CROSS SNYDR INTXN AT 7000 FT AND TURN R TO 130 DEGS AT SNYDR. JUST AS WE STARTED THE TURN, THE TCASII DISPLAYED A BRIEF TA (YELLOW) IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY AN RA (RED) TO CLB. AT THAT TIME THE TARGET WAS AT 800 FT AND CLOSING. WE MADE A MAX CLB TO 8000 FT AND THE TARGET CAME WITHIN 400 FT, WHEN WE WERE AT 7800 FT. THE TCASII THEN ANNOUNCED 'CLR OF CONFLICT' AND WE DSNDED TO 7000 FT. ATC DIDN'T SEEM TO BE AWARE OF OUR CLB OR THE CONFLICT WHEN WE RELAYED THE INFO ON THE RADIO. THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE CONFLICT ON THE FOLLOWUP TELEPHONE CALL.
