Narrative:
During cruise, center issued instructions to cross lamma intersection at 12000 ft. A flight attendant entered the cockpit and later an interphone call from the flight attendant diverted my attention from starting the descent timely. I initiated the descent using idle power and speed brakes deployed for the maximum rate of descent. As soon as it was apparent I could not make the crossing restr, I instructed the first officer to advise center. Center then asked the (our) rate of descent and what altitude we thought we could cross the intersection. At this point I was very busy attempting to make the crossing restr and I informed the controller for the second time we could not make the restr but would take a 90 degree vector off course or whatever the controller wanted us to do. The controller responded with 'do the best that you can do.' after passing the intersection, the controller handed us off to another frequency.

Title: ACR MLG CLRED TO CROSS LAMMA INTXN 12000 FT. CAPT, PF, DISTRACTED BY COM WITH CABIN ATTENDANT FAILED TO BEGIN DSCNT IN TIME TO MAKE XING. CTLR ADVISED TO DO THE BEST POSSIBLE. SAME RPTR ACN 363253.
Narrative: DURING CRUISE, CTR ISSUED INSTRUCTIONS TO CROSS LAMMA INTXN AT 12000 FT. A FLT ATTENDANT ENTERED THE COCKPIT AND LATER AN INTERPHONE CALL FROM THE FLT ATTENDANT DIVERTED MY ATTN FROM STARTING THE DSCNT TIMELY. I INITIATED THE DSCNT USING IDLE PWR AND SPD BRAKES DEPLOYED FOR THE MAX RATE OF DSCNT. AS SOON AS IT WAS APPARENT I COULD NOT MAKE THE XING RESTR, I INSTRUCTED THE FO TO ADVISE CTR. CTR THEN ASKED THE (OUR) RATE OF DSCNT AND WHAT ALT WE THOUGHT WE COULD CROSS THE INTXN. AT THIS POINT I WAS VERY BUSY ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THE XING RESTR AND I INFORMED THE CTLR FOR THE SECOND TIME WE COULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR BUT WOULD TAKE A 90 DEG VECTOR OFF COURSE OR WHATEVER THE CTLR WANTED US TO DO. THE CTLR RESPONDED WITH 'DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN DO.' AFTER PASSING THE INTXN, THE CTLR HANDED US OFF TO ANOTHER FREQ.
