Narrative:
While in position for takeoff on runway 29, intersection P, a B727 was cleared for takeoff on runway 4L. The centerline of runway 4L passes directly over intersection P on runway 29 where we were located. We were caught completely off guard when the B727, which used all the available runway on runway 4L for departure, passed right over us missing the aircraft by less than 50 ft. I yelled at the tower controller and told him I was moving my aircraft up and away from the intersection. The B727 scared the life out of myself, my crew, and my passenger. The controllers stated that the airspace between the departure end of runway 4L and the beginning of runway 29 at intersection P was 'unprotected' because the runways did not physically intercept each other. I filled out a company captain's irregularity report and notified the FAA. This procedure in departing an aircraft from runway 4L while there is an aircraft waiting to depart from intersection P on runway 29 is an accident waiting to happen which came too close to happening that night.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTED INCIDENT IN WHICH AN ACR B727 DEPARTED RWY 4L OVER AN LTT COMMUTER HOLDING IN POS ON RWY 29, AN INTERSECTING RWY. RWY 4L DOES NOT PHYSICALLY INTERSECT RWY 29 -- THE DEP PATH CROSSES INTERSECTS IT.
Narrative: WHILE IN POS FOR TKOF ON RWY 29, INTXN P, A B727 WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 4L. THE CTRLINE OF RWY 4L PASSES DIRECTLY OVER INTXN P ON RWY 29 WHERE WE WERE LOCATED. WE WERE CAUGHT COMPLETELY OFF GUARD WHEN THE B727, WHICH USED ALL THE AVAILABLE RWY ON RWY 4L FOR DEP, PASSED RIGHT OVER US MISSING THE ACFT BY LESS THAN 50 FT. I YELLED AT THE TWR CTLR AND TOLD HIM I WAS MOVING MY ACFT UP AND AWAY FROM THE INTXN. THE B727 SCARED THE LIFE OUT OF MYSELF, MY CREW, AND MY PAX. THE CTLRS STATED THAT THE AIRSPACE BTWN THE DEP END OF RWY 4L AND THE BEGINNING OF RWY 29 AT INTXN P WAS 'UNPROTECTED' BECAUSE THE RWYS DID NOT PHYSICALLY INTERCEPT EACH OTHER. I FILLED OUT A COMPANY CAPT'S IRREGULARITY RPT AND NOTIFIED THE FAA. THIS PROC IN DEPARTING AN ACFT FROM RWY 4L WHILE THERE IS AN ACFT WAITING TO DEPART FROM INTXN P ON RWY 29 IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN WHICH CAME TOO CLOSE TO HAPPENING THAT NIGHT.
