Narrative:

Pushed back too far in nagoya, japan. When released from tug driver made a right turn and realized we were in the taxiway edge lights. Was told by ground controller to stop and turn left. As a result we ran over one taxi light with an ensuing left center tire change. I normally do not start the engines so I can watch outside. On this flight we were at maximum takeoff weight for the runway in use and the 2 first officer's were making sure we were legal for takeoff. Tug driver admitted he pushed us back too far.
