Narrative:
Shortly after passing mcw on the jvl 4 arrival we were given a crossing altitude of FL290 at viking intersection at 79 DME. We had approximately 70 mi to comply to lose 4000 ft. Shortly thereafter, we were distraction by 1 of our flight attendants regarding 2 cabin write-ups. As we attempted to gather more information and enter the information in the log, we were reminded of the crossing restr by ATC. We began our descent and missed the crossing by 4 mi. As we were reminded prior to descent ATC implied there was no problem but to descend nevertheless. No further mention occurred. In retrospect, I should have not bothered with the logbook until gate arrival. The first officer was busy as well obtaining arm codes for these write-ups at the same time. I will also request that in the future other first officer's refrain from such practices thus avoiding a repeat occurrence.

Title: S80 FLC WAS BUSY WITH FILLING OUT LOGBOOK INSTEAD OF STARTING THEIR DSCNT SO AS TO COMPLY WITH ATC CLRNC. PASSED OVER INTXN HIGH, MAKING ALT OF FL290 4 MI PAST POINT.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER PASSING MCW ON THE JVL 4 ARR WE WERE GIVEN A XING ALT OF FL290 AT VIKING INTXN AT 79 DME. WE HAD APPROX 70 MI TO COMPLY TO LOSE 4000 FT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, WE WERE DISTR BY 1 OF OUR FLT ATTENDANTS REGARDING 2 CABIN WRITE-UPS. AS WE ATTEMPTED TO GATHER MORE INFO AND ENTER THE INFO IN THE LOG, WE WERE REMINDED OF THE XING RESTR BY ATC. WE BEGAN OUR DSCNT AND MISSED THE XING BY 4 MI. AS WE WERE REMINDED PRIOR TO DSCNT ATC IMPLIED THERE WAS NO PROB BUT TO DSND NEVERTHELESS. NO FURTHER MENTION OCCURRED. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE NOT BOTHERED WITH THE LOGBOOK UNTIL GATE ARR. THE FO WAS BUSY AS WELL OBTAINING ARM CODES FOR THESE WRITE-UPS AT THE SAME TIME. I WILL ALSO REQUEST THAT IN THE FUTURE OTHER FO'S REFRAIN FROM SUCH PRACTICES THUS AVOIDING A REPEAT OCCURRENCE.
