Narrative:
While we were being vectored to runway 9L at mia, a B747 which we had previously observed, and thought to be on approach to runway 9R, flew directly in front of us on an apparent collision course I disconnected autoplt and maneuvered behind and slightly above the B747, then completed approach and landing on runway 9L. Mia tower asked me to contact TRACON supervisor, who informed me that a controller trainee had failed to turn the B747 onto the runway 9R final approach course, resulting in this incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN A SUPER MD80 ON FINAL FOR A L PARALLEL RWY AND A B747 XING IN FRONT OF THEM, WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TURNED INBOUND TO THE R PARALLEL RWY. ATC LATER ADVISED THAT IT WAS A CTLR ERROR BY A TRAINEE.
