Narrative:

While taxiing east on taxiway Y, I was instructed by ground to hold short of runway 17R and monitor tower frequency. There was blowing rain from south to north and water standing on the pavement as I held just enough power to maintain directional and roll control. I did not see the hold short line or the runway lighting until I was only ft from the hold short line. I applied the main brakes but hydroplaned and wxvaned as it slid across the hold short line. The aircraft came to rest approximately 10 ft beyond the hold short and approximately 20 ft from the western edge of the runway. Unable to contact tower, I switched back to ground and was informed to taxi back across the hold short as I was 'in the center of the runway,' which I was not. I informed him that I was not in the center of any runways as I crossed back to the other side of the hold short line. I reported clear of the runway and was handed to tower for takeoff instructions. Prevention action would include better drainage in that very large paved area, brighter paint stripes or lighting for the hold short, or a 'median' with a sign as the signs were out of my peripheral vision as this area is so wide.

Title: ATX PLT CROSSES HOLD LINE FOR RWY 17R DURING HVY RAIN SHOWERS AND GUSTY CONDITIONS. SKIDDED ACROSS THE LINE, TEMPORARILY LOSING CTL OF HIS ACFT. EXITS THE AREA ASAP AFTER CALLING GND CTLR.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING E ON TXWY Y, I WAS INSTRUCTED BY GND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17R AND MONITOR TWR FREQ. THERE WAS BLOWING RAIN FROM S TO N AND WATER STANDING ON THE PAVEMENT AS I HELD JUST ENOUGH PWR TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL AND ROLL CTL. I DID NOT SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINE OR THE RWY LIGHTING UNTIL I WAS ONLY FT FROM THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I APPLIED THE MAIN BRAKES BUT HYDROPLANED AND WXVANED AS IT SLID ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE ACFT CAME TO REST APPROX 10 FT BEYOND THE HOLD SHORT AND APPROX 20 FT FROM THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE RWY. I INFORMED HIM THAT I WAS NOT IN THE CTR OF ANY RWYS AS I CROSSED BACK TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I RPTED CLR OF THE RWY AND WAS HANDED TO TWR FOR TKOF INSTRUCTIONS. PREVENTION ACTION WOULD INCLUDE BETTER DRAINAGE IN THAT VERY LARGE PAVED AREA, BRIGHTER PAINT STRIPES OR LIGHTING FOR THE HOLD SHORT, OR A 'MEDIAN' WITH A SIGN AS THE SIGNS WERE OUT OF MY PERIPHERAL VISION AS THIS AREA IS SO WIDE.
