Narrative:
The tdwr system at mci ATCT is unsatisfactory when precipitation and thunderstorm activity is in the area. On apr/wed/97 beginning when the precipitation began around XA30 until it left the area about XJ30 the tdwr system experienced communication line failures at least 8 times. During these periods, precipitation levels and LLWS alerts were not available. Although the interruptions averaged less than a min per event, during a thunderstorm activity, this could be significant. A ucr has been filed on this problem and maintenance is working to fix it.

Title: TDWR EQUIP RPTED AS UNSATISFACTORY DURING PRECIP AND TSTM ACTIVITY. RPTR SAYS THERE WERE AT LEAST 8 COM LINES FAILURES OF LESS THAN A MIN DURING A 10 HR PERIOD OF PRECIP.
Narrative: THE TDWR SYS AT MCI ATCT IS UNSATISFACTORY WHEN PRECIP AND TSTM ACTIVITY IS IN THE AREA. ON APR/WED/97 BEGINNING WHEN THE PRECIP BEGAN AROUND XA30 UNTIL IT LEFT THE AREA ABOUT XJ30 THE TDWR SYS EXPERIENCED COM LINE FAILURES AT LEAST 8 TIMES. DURING THESE PERIODS, PRECIP LEVELS AND LLWS ALERTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. ALTHOUGH THE INTERRUPTIONS AVERAGED LESS THAN A MIN PER EVENT, DURING A TSTM ACTIVITY, THIS COULD BE SIGNIFICANT. A UCR HAS BEEN FILED ON THIS PROB AND MAINT IS WORKING TO FIX IT.
