Narrative:

Given taxi clearance in lga to hold short of runway 22 on taxiway F. The hold short line is abnormally far from runway edge and is mistaken for another line not associated with holding short of runway. The captain, who was taxiing, crossed over the line inadvertently by approximately 10 ft before the controller told him to stop. I also alerted the captain as we approached the line but it was too late and he crossed over. By chance, another air carrier B757, about 5 mins behind us, did exactly the same thing, except the tower had to instruct the aircraft on final to runway 22 to go missed because the B757 had pulled too far out into the runway or too close to the runway. I suggest this intersection is poorly marked for holding short and wonder how often this problem occurs. Supplemental information from acn 365065: taxiway F is a high speed that is very angled off the runway and there is a lighted hold short marking. As I approached the hold indicator, it did not appear to me to be the hold line for runway 22 because of the angle of the taxiway. To hold at this line means you block taxiway B. A simple way for ground to avoid this would be to cross aircraft on taxiway east which crosses runway 22 at the same point as taxiway F, but it is easier to identify the hold point.

Title: F100 FLC CROSSED THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 22 AT LGA ON TXWY F. CREW CITES THE TXWY DESIGN AND HOLD LINE PLACEMENT AS DECEIVING AND CONFUSING. DID NOT ASSOCIATE THAT HOLD LINE AS BEING RELEVANT FOR RWY 22.

Narrative: GIVEN TAXI CLRNC IN LGA TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22 ON TXWY F. THE HOLD SHORT LINE IS ABNORMALLY FAR FROM RWY EDGE AND IS MISTAKEN FOR ANOTHER LINE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH HOLDING SHORT OF RWY. THE CAPT, WHO WAS TAXIING, CROSSED OVER THE LINE INADVERTENTLY BY APPROX 10 FT BEFORE THE CTLR TOLD HIM TO STOP. I ALSO ALERTED THE CAPT AS WE APCHED THE LINE BUT IT WAS TOO LATE AND HE CROSSED OVER. BY CHANCE, ANOTHER ACR B757, ABOUT 5 MINS BEHIND US, DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING, EXCEPT THE TWR HAD TO INSTRUCT THE ACFT ON FINAL TO RWY 22 TO GO MISSED BECAUSE THE B757 HAD PULLED TOO FAR OUT INTO THE RWY OR TOO CLOSE TO THE RWY. I SUGGEST THIS INTXN IS POORLY MARKED FOR HOLDING SHORT AND WONDER HOW OFTEN THIS PROB OCCURS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 365065: TXWY F IS A HIGH SPD THAT IS VERY ANGLED OFF THE RWY AND THERE IS A LIGHTED HOLD SHORT MARKING. AS I APCHED THE HOLD INDICATOR, IT DID NOT APPEAR TO ME TO BE THE HOLD LINE FOR RWY 22 BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE OF THE TXWY. TO HOLD AT THIS LINE MEANS YOU BLOCK TXWY B. A SIMPLE WAY FOR GND TO AVOID THIS WOULD BE TO CROSS ACFT ON TXWY E WHICH CROSSES RWY 22 AT THE SAME POINT AS TXWY F, BUT IT IS EASIER TO IDENT THE HOLD POINT.
