Narrative:

Cruising en route at FL230, ATC advised us that our altitude was 300 ft low. After checking the captain and first officer altimeters and finding both reading FL230 with no deviations, we selected transponder #2. ATC then advised he was reading FL230 as well. No further problems.

Title: ARTCC CTLR ADVISED THE FLC OF A B737 THAT THEY WERE INDICATING 300 FT LOW ON THEIR ASSIGNED ALT. SINCE THE CAPT'S AND THE FO'S ALTIMETERS READ THE CORRECT ALT, THEY SWITCHED TO THE #2 XPONDER AND THEIR ALT INDICATED ON ASSIGNED ALT BY ATC.

Narrative: CRUISING ENRTE AT FL230, ATC ADVISED US THAT OUR ALT WAS 300 FT LOW. AFTER CHKING THE CAPT AND FO ALTIMETERS AND FINDING BOTH READING FL230 WITH NO DEVS, WE SELECTED XPONDER #2. ATC THEN ADVISED HE WAS READING FL230 AS WELL. NO FURTHER PROBS.
