Controller indicated we were not at assigned altitude of 5000 ft which we were. We switched mode C transponder to #2 backup and then got correct altitude readout.

Title: THE ARTCC RADAR CTLR INDICATED TO THE FLC OF AN MDT THAT THEIR ALT WAS NOT INDICATING AS ASSIGNED. THE FLC SWITCHED TO THE OTHER XPONDER AND THEN THE CTLR RECEIVED THE CORRECT ALT READOUT.
Narrative: CTLR INDICATED WE WERE NOT AT ASSIGNED ALT OF 5000 FT WHICH WE WERE. WE SWITCHED MODE C XPONDER TO #2 BACKUP AND THEN GOT CORRECT ALT READOUT.
