Narrative:
Took off from runway as indicated by windsock and noise abatement. Someone reported straight-in to the opposing running (he called 5 mi final). Aircraft was closer than that. Had him in sight the whole time and did an immediate turn after takeoff for conflict avoidance. Other aircraft did not alter course. Probably should have waited for the opposing traffic and did not realize the closure rate.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C172 DEPARTED FHR ON RWY FAVORED BY THE WINDSOCK. HEARD ACFT RPT LNDG STRAIGHT-IN ON OPPOSITE DIRECTION RWY. SAW TFC ON DEP AND MADE A TURN TO AVOID. OTHER ACFT TOOK NO EVASIVE ACTION.
Narrative: TOOK OFF FROM RWY AS INDICATED BY WINDSOCK AND NOISE ABATEMENT. SOMEONE RPTED STRAIGHT-IN TO THE OPPOSING RUNNING (HE CALLED 5 MI FINAL). ACFT WAS CLOSER THAN THAT. HAD HIM IN SIGHT THE WHOLE TIME AND DID AN IMMEDIATE TURN AFTER TKOF FOR CONFLICT AVOIDANCE. OTHER ACFT DID NOT ALTER COURSE. PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR THE OPPOSING TFC AND DID NOT REALIZE THE CLOSURE RATE.
