Narrative:

About XX33Z apr/xx/97, the #2 oil pressure light came on. The engine was shut down according to the irregular procedure, we had just leveled off at FL350 and our weight was 630000 pounds (maximum weight for that altitude). The speed began to slow as the engine was shut down. We applied maximum rated thrust to the remaining engines. We declared an emergency through ZHN. We turn the aircraft to 180 degrees, about 90 degrees off our original course of 270 degrees. When we were 25 mi off course, we began an immediate descent. We leveled off at FL290. Then we turned to return to hnl. We were about 40 mi south of the original track, well out of the way of other aircraft. At the same time, we began to dump fuel. We dumped down to our maximum landing weight. Later we descended to FL220. We called our company dispatcher and explained the problem and our next course of action. He concurred. We told the dispatcher we had declared an emergency with ZHN and that we needed 'the equipment' upon landing at hnl. We contacted ZHN still squawking 7700. They gave us another squawk code cleared us direct to hnl VORTAC. All checklists had been completed and we were ready for landing. We were handed off to hnl approach control and were cleared via a heading of 060 degrees to intercept the ILS for runway 8L. We made the approach and on short final noticed no 'equipment' present along the taxiway. We landed uneventfully and taxied to the gate. Looking back, somewhere our emergency was lost. Somewhere our request for 'the equipment' was lost. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated the engine slowly spooled down, the oil pressure light came on, so the engine shutdown list was completed. They didn't know the exact cause, but they also knew the engine wouldn't respond to any throttle advance or show any fuel flow. Care was taken to descend to lower altitude off airway. They had declared an emergency and began to squawk 7700. As they got closer to hnl, ZHN seemed to forget they were an emergency aircraft. Reporter feels that their emergency was forgotten as they got closer to hnl. There was no crash fire rescue equipment equipment at the runway when they landed.

Title: B747-100 SHUTS DOWN AN ENG 400 MI W OF HNL. RETURN LAND AT HNL AND FINDS THE GEARS IN THE ENG DRIVEN FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED.

Narrative: ABOUT XX33Z APR/XX/97, THE #2 OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN ACCORDING TO THE IRREGULAR PROC, WE HAD JUST LEVELED OFF AT FL350 AND OUR WT WAS 630000 LBS (MAX WT FOR THAT ALT). THE SPD BEGAN TO SLOW AS THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. WE APPLIED MAX RATED THRUST TO THE REMAINING ENGS. WE DECLARED AN EMER THROUGH ZHN. WE TURN THE ACFT TO 180 DEGS, ABOUT 90 DEGS OFF OUR ORIGINAL COURSE OF 270 DEGS. WHEN WE WERE 25 MI OFF COURSE, WE BEGAN AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT. WE LEVELED OFF AT FL290. THEN WE TURNED TO RETURN TO HNL. WE WERE ABOUT 40 MI S OF THE ORIGINAL TRACK, WELL OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER ACFT. AT THE SAME TIME, WE BEGAN TO DUMP FUEL. WE DUMPED DOWN TO OUR MAX LNDG WT. LATER WE DSNDED TO FL220. WE CALLED OUR COMPANY DISPATCHER AND EXPLAINED THE PROB AND OUR NEXT COURSE OF ACTION. HE CONCURRED. WE TOLD THE DISPATCHER WE HAD DECLARED AN EMER WITH ZHN AND THAT WE NEEDED 'THE EQUIP' UPON LNDG AT HNL. WE CONTACTED ZHN STILL SQUAWKING 7700. THEY GAVE US ANOTHER SQUAWK CODE CLRED US DIRECT TO HNL VORTAC. ALL CHKLISTS HAD BEEN COMPLETED AND WE WERE READY FOR LNDG. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO HNL APCH CTL AND WERE CLRED VIA A HDG OF 060 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE ILS FOR RWY 8L. WE MADE THE APCH AND ON SHORT FINAL NOTICED NO 'EQUIP' PRESENT ALONG THE TXWY. WE LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AND TAXIED TO THE GATE. LOOKING BACK, SOMEWHERE OUR EMER WAS LOST. SOMEWHERE OUR REQUEST FOR 'THE EQUIP' WAS LOST. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THE ENG SLOWLY SPOOLED DOWN, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, SO THE ENG SHUTDOWN LIST WAS COMPLETED. THEY DIDN'T KNOW THE EXACT CAUSE, BUT THEY ALSO KNEW THE ENG WOULDN'T RESPOND TO ANY THROTTLE ADVANCE OR SHOW ANY FUEL FLOW. CARE WAS TAKEN TO DSND TO LOWER ALT OFF AIRWAY. THEY HAD DECLARED AN EMER AND BEGAN TO SQUAWK 7700. AS THEY GOT CLOSER TO HNL, ZHN SEEMED TO FORGET THEY WERE AN EMER ACFT. RPTR FEELS THAT THEIR EMER WAS FORGOTTEN AS THEY GOT CLOSER TO HNL. THERE WAS NO CFR EQUIP AT THE RWY WHEN THEY LANDED.
