Narrative:
First time landing at dca. High traffic time -- XA00 fri rush? Moderate turbulence extensive vectors prior to landing, twice 180 degrees from airport -- time delays in turbulence. Poor planning by approach. Wind -- 330 degrees, 16 KTS gusting to 35 KTS -- windshear and possible wake turbulence. Busy traffic on visual approach -- tight sequencing -- follow traffic. Visual to runway 36 (finally) switched to land on runway 33 on short final. Tower, 'please keep speed up to cross runway 36 then exit as soon as possible to left. Plane on short final for runway 36 and runway 33.' keep speed up -- crossed runway 36 -- slowed but could not turn off at first exit. Remembered 'please exit' -- plane on short final for runway 33 -- ok -- took next exit. Exited on high speed taxiway, but used reverse/backwards high speed as it was oriented to runway 15. Tower said 'thanks for all your help, call ground.' with setting sun in my eyes, I clipped the last taxi light with my left propeller on the inside of the turn. Turn too tight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMT ACFT. PLT FIRST TIME INTO DCA WITH EXTENSIVE VECTORS. MODERATE TURB, STRONG WINDS, HVY TFC, SWITCHED FROM VISUAL TO RWY 36 TO RWY 33 TO KEEP SPD UP AND EXIT FIRST TURNOFF. PLT MADE THE TURNOFF, BUT USED REVERSE BACK TXWY AND DUE TO SHARP TURN HIT TAXI LIGHT WITH THE L PROP.
Narrative: FIRST TIME LNDG AT DCA. HIGH TFC TIME -- XA00 FRI RUSH? MODERATE TURB EXTENSIVE VECTORS PRIOR TO LNDG, TWICE 180 DEGS FROM ARPT -- TIME DELAYS IN TURB. POOR PLANNING BY APCH. WIND -- 330 DEGS, 16 KTS GUSTING TO 35 KTS -- WINDSHEAR AND POSSIBLE WAKE TURB. BUSY TFC ON VISUAL APCH -- TIGHT SEQUENCING -- FOLLOW TFC. VISUAL TO RWY 36 (FINALLY) SWITCHED TO LAND ON RWY 33 ON SHORT FINAL. TWR, 'PLEASE KEEP SPEED UP TO CROSS RWY 36 THEN EXIT ASAP TO L. PLANE ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 36 AND RWY 33.' KEEP SPEED UP -- CROSSED RWY 36 -- SLOWED BUT COULD NOT TURN OFF AT FIRST EXIT. REMEMBERED 'PLEASE EXIT' -- PLANE ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 33 -- OK -- TOOK NEXT EXIT. EXITED ON HIGH SPD TXWY, BUT USED REVERSE/BACKWARDS HIGH SPD AS IT WAS ORIENTED TO RWY 15. TWR SAID 'THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, CALL GND.' WITH SETTING SUN IN MY EYES, I CLIPPED THE LAST TAXI LIGHT WITH MY L PROP ON THE INSIDE OF THE TURN. TURN TOO TIGHT.
