Narrative:
Received runway change upon takeoff clearance. Departed via prado SID. Upon check-in with departure control received new altitude restr due to traffic. He went behind us 500 ft below. Then cleared to 7000 ft with traffic at 8000 ft. He went directly over us as we were cleared to 14000 ft and switched to ZLA -- I think. We began climb at approximately 2500 FPM. Once in climb we received an immediate TCASII traffic followed immediately by TCASII RA to descend at 2000 FPM. Maneuvering resulted in missing a C177 cardinal by 200-300 ft along the right side above us. Maneuvering also resulted in a late turn to join the thermal transition. Supplemental information from acn 366917: ATC informed that he had seen him -- and that if we have turned on transition traffic would not have been a factor. Captain explained that maneuvering prevented turning.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MD80 FAILS TO MAKE A TURN ON THE PRADO SID DEP PROC WHEN THE PIC IS DISTRACTED BY A TCASII RA FROM TFC HEAD ON, DSNDING. CTLR SAYS THAT TFC WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROB HAD THE ACR TURNED AS SCHEDULED. THERE WAS, INITIALLY, A 7 MI SEPARATION DISTANCE.
Narrative: RECEIVED RWY CHANGE UPON TKOF CLRNC. DEPARTED VIA PRADO SID. UPON CHK-IN WITH DEP CTL RECEIVED NEW ALT RESTR DUE TO TFC. HE WENT BEHIND US 500 FT BELOW. THEN CLRED TO 7000 FT WITH TFC AT 8000 FT. HE WENT DIRECTLY OVER US AS WE WERE CLRED TO 14000 FT AND SWITCHED TO ZLA -- I THINK. WE BEGAN CLB AT APPROX 2500 FPM. ONCE IN CLB WE RECEIVED AN IMMEDIATE TCASII TFC FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY TCASII RA TO DSND AT 2000 FPM. MANEUVERING RESULTED IN MISSING A C177 CARDINAL BY 200-300 FT ALONG THE R SIDE ABOVE US. MANEUVERING ALSO RESULTED IN A LATE TURN TO JOIN THE THERMAL TRANSITION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 366917: ATC INFORMED THAT HE HAD SEEN HIM -- AND THAT IF WE HAVE TURNED ON TRANSITION TFC WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FACTOR. CAPT EXPLAINED THAT MANEUVERING PREVENTED TURNING.
