Narrative:

During climb out to 11000 ft MSL, issued a visual climb separation clearance with an air carrier dash-8. Altitude alerter did not signal passing through 10000 ft MSL and first officer therefore failed to make callout '1000 ft to go.' rate of climb was approximately 3000 FPM and altitude clearance was broken by 500 ft. (11500 ft). Immediate power reduction and pitch down was performed and time outside of clearance limit was approximately 15 seconds. Myself and my first officer were on minimum FAA reduced rest of 8 hours as allowed by far part 121. Hunger and fatigue were certainly possible factors and could be considered contributing. Also generally for the route of flight a further clearance is generally expected close to where the incident happened. By using outside reference only to maintain separation, aircraft performance was utilized to the maximum extent to avoid conflict. No collision hazard was created and ATC departure recognized the clearance deviation so the situation was resolved quickly. Contacted controller after flight and incident did not generate a violation.

Title: BEECH 1900D CLBING TO 11000 FT OVERSHOT TO 11500 FT WHILE MAINTAINING VISUAL ON ANOTHER ACFT. RPTR RPTS ALT ALERT CHIME DID NOT RING.

Narrative: DURING CLBOUT TO 11000 FT MSL, ISSUED A VISUAL CLB SEPARATION CLRNC WITH AN ACR DASH-8. ALT ALERTER DID NOT SIGNAL PASSING THROUGH 10000 FT MSL AND FO THEREFORE FAILED TO MAKE CALLOUT '1000 FT TO GO.' RATE OF CLB WAS APPROX 3000 FPM AND ALT CLRNC WAS BROKEN BY 500 FT. (11500 FT). IMMEDIATE PWR REDUCTION AND PITCH DOWN WAS PERFORMED AND TIME OUTSIDE OF CLRNC LIMIT WAS APPROX 15 SECONDS. MYSELF AND MY FO WERE ON MINIMUM FAA REDUCED REST OF 8 HRS AS ALLOWED BY FAR PART 121. HUNGER AND FATIGUE WERE CERTAINLY POSSIBLE FACTORS AND COULD BE CONSIDERED CONTRIBUTING. ALSO GENERALLY FOR THE RTE OF FLT A FURTHER CLRNC IS GENERALLY EXPECTED CLOSE TO WHERE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. BY USING OUTSIDE REF ONLY TO MAINTAIN SEPARATION, ACFT PERFORMANCE WAS UTILIZED TO THE MAX EXTENT TO AVOID CONFLICT. NO COLLISION HAZARD WAS CREATED AND ATC DEP RECOGNIZED THE CLRNC DEV SO THE SIT WAS RESOLVED QUICKLY. CONTACTED CTLR AFTER FLT AND INCIDENT DID NOT GENERATE A VIOLATION.
