Narrative:
I went to expand TCASII from 5 mi to the 15 NM range and moved transponder knob 1 digit, by mistake. They are next to each other on the console. ATC advised me of squawk change.

Title: PIC OF A B737 MEANT TO CHANGE THE MILEAGE RANGE ON HIS TCASII BUT INADVERTENTLY CHANGED HIS XPONDER CODE INSTEAD. CTLR CAUGHT THE ERROR. RPTR MENTIONED THE PROX OF THE 2 CTLS TO ONE ANOTHER.
