Narrative:
I flew my aircraft (3 passenger) to chino to visit the air museum. I naved to chino using GPS and the lax TCA chart. My bearing to chino was 100 degrees magnetic. On landing at chino, I was informed by ground control that I had entered brackett's air traffic area (phone call from brackett tower). I indicated that I was surprised, that no incursion was intended, and that I was navigating using GPS. It was a typical hazy los angeles day and navigating by pilotage would have been less accurate than GPS in my opinion. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states he was quite surprised to be called for entering the class D airspace as he had drawn a line from chino out to intersect the freeway well outside the brackett class D boundary. No GPS warnings ever sounded re-entering the class D or the class C airspace. He was not asked to contact brackett ATC personnel. His GPS seems very accurate and indicated less than 1/10 mi when landing at chino and indicated less than that when returning to whitman.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C182P PLT IS TOLD UPON LNDG THAT HE ENTERED A CLASS D AIRSPACE OF A NEARBY ARPT. USING GPS, LORAN AND PILOTAGE, HE DOES NOT BELIEVE HE DID SO. NO GPS WARNINGS WERE ISSUED.
Narrative: I FLEW MY ACFT (3 PAX) TO CHINO TO VISIT THE AIR MUSEUM. I NAVED TO CHINO USING GPS AND THE LAX TCA CHART. MY BEARING TO CHINO WAS 100 DEGS MAGNETIC. ON LNDG AT CHINO, I WAS INFORMED BY GND CTL THAT I HAD ENTERED BRACKETT'S ATA (PHONE CALL FROM BRACKETT TWR). I INDICATED THAT I WAS SURPRISED, THAT NO INCURSION WAS INTENDED, AND THAT I WAS NAVING USING GPS. IT WAS A TYPICAL HAZY LOS ANGELES DAY AND NAVING BY PILOTAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS ACCURATE THAN GPS IN MY OPINION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HE WAS QUITE SURPRISED TO BE CALLED FOR ENTERING THE CLASS D AIRSPACE AS HE HAD DRAWN A LINE FROM CHINO OUT TO INTERSECT THE FREEWAY WELL OUTSIDE THE BRACKETT CLASS D BOUNDARY. NO GPS WARNINGS EVER SOUNDED RE-ENTERING THE CLASS D OR THE CLASS C AIRSPACE. HE WAS NOT ASKED TO CONTACT BRACKETT ATC PERSONNEL. HIS GPS SEEMS VERY ACCURATE AND INDICATED LESS THAN 1/10 MI WHEN LNDG AT CHINO AND INDICATED LESS THAN THAT WHEN RETURNING TO WHITMAN.
