Narrative:
A marine layer at 1500 ft MSL was moving in from the coast to the airport. I attempted coming in from the coast (VFR on top) using a combination VOR reference and GPS. When I called in the tower they were in the middle of a shift change. I was told to stand by. I was never recontacted and proceeded over the airport in a left downwind. Due to the low visibility and scattered cloud layer I strayed slightly into class B airspace. When notified by the tower (they have a BRITE display) I immediately turned to the north (as directed) and then was cleared to land. Combination of not using ATC for radar vectors, low visibility and a fast moving marine layer, plus the tower in the middle of a shift change I feel brought this about. I could have contacted ATC and got a class B clearance (I was monitoring the frequency). I could have asked for an ILS (I am current). I should have called back the tower sooner (due to the shift change). I should have come in from the east (still had ground contact). Etc, etc.

Title: BE35 ENTERED SAN TCA CLASS B WHILE APCHING MYF ARPT. TWR SHIFT CHANGE DELAYED OBTAINING CLRNC INTO THE ATA CLASS D.
Narrative: A MARINE LAYER AT 1500 FT MSL WAS MOVING IN FROM THE COAST TO THE ARPT. I ATTEMPTED COMING IN FROM THE COAST (VFR ON TOP) USING A COMBINATION VOR REF AND GPS. WHEN I CALLED IN THE TWR THEY WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHIFT CHANGE. I WAS TOLD TO STAND BY. I WAS NEVER RECONTACTED AND PROCEEDED OVER THE ARPT IN A L DOWNWIND. DUE TO THE LOW VISIBILITY AND SCATTERED CLOUD LAYER I STRAYED SLIGHTLY INTO CLASS B AIRSPACE. WHEN NOTIFIED BY THE TWR (THEY HAVE A BRITE DISPLAY) I IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO THE N (AS DIRECTED) AND THEN WAS CLRED TO LAND. COMBINATION OF NOT USING ATC FOR RADAR VECTORS, LOW VISIBILITY AND A FAST MOVING MARINE LAYER, PLUS THE TWR IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHIFT CHANGE I FEEL BROUGHT THIS ABOUT. I COULD HAVE CONTACTED ATC AND GOT A CLASS B CLRNC (I WAS MONITORING THE FREQ). I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR AN ILS (I AM CURRENT). I SHOULD HAVE CALLED BACK THE TWR SOONER (DUE TO THE SHIFT CHANGE). I SHOULD HAVE COME IN FROM THE E (STILL HAD GND CONTACT). ETC, ETC.
