Narrative:
On climb out of salt lake city heading 280 degrees, passing 10000 ft for 12000 ft (cloud deck at approximately 13000 ft) autoplt engaged, departure gave us a turn to 160 degrees, due to numerous thunder showers. We were unable to turn right away. I became distracted with WX avoidance and missed leveloff at 12000 ft. We initiated a turn to 160 degrees, rounding the west side of a thunder shower I noticed the altitude deviation and made an immediate, aggressive correction back to 12000 ft from 12800 ft. Shortly afterward we were cleared to climb to 15000 ft. No conflict occurred. Supplemental information from acn 369723: my mistake was allowing myself to get distracted by the WX and not monitoring the first officer's leveloff.

Title: AN LGT ACFT DEPARTING FROM SLC, UT, OVERSHOOTS ASSIGNED ALT ON CLBOUT.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT OF SALT LAKE CITY HDG 280 DEGS, PASSING 10000 FT FOR 12000 FT (CLOUD DECK AT APPROX 13000 FT) AUTOPLT ENGAGED, DEP GAVE US A TURN TO 160 DEGS, DUE TO NUMEROUS THUNDER SHOWERS. WE WERE UNABLE TO TURN RIGHT AWAY. I BECAME DISTRACTED WITH WX AVOIDANCE AND MISSED LEVELOFF AT 12000 FT. WE INITIATED A TURN TO 160 DEGS, ROUNDING THE W SIDE OF A THUNDER SHOWER I NOTICED THE ALTDEV AND MADE AN IMMEDIATE, AGGRESSIVE CORRECTION BACK TO 12000 FT FROM 12800 FT. SHORTLY AFTERWARD WE WERE CLRED TO CLB TO 15000 FT. NO CONFLICT OCCURRED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 369723: MY MISTAKE WAS ALLOWING MYSELF TO GET DISTRACTED BY THE WX AND NOT MONITORING THE FO'S LEVELOFF.
