Narrative:

During climb we were cleared to 14000 ft. As a result of an instructional discussion with a student captain, who was flying from the left seat, the 1000 ft to go call was not given and it resulted in the aircraft being leveled at 15000 ft instead of 14000 ft. Altitude alert device was set properly to 14000 ft but did not get our attention as the aircraft climbed through 14000 ft. The aircraft was immediately descended to 14000 ft. Strict adherence to established crew coordination procedures and a better altitude alert device would have prevented this incident.
