Narrative:
This situation does not involve a particular aircraft or occurrence but rather a change, by FAA management, of the information available for the air traffic controller to do one of the requirements of his job. One of the requirements for my particular area of specialization is that aircraft destined for major northeast airports must be put on the proper routing. This 'proper routing' involves the issuance of a STAR and these stars have amendment numbers at the end, such as macey 1. Evidently, in an effort to save work, management decided that they would not update the STAR number in the only place this information is available to me -- the computer. I cannot issue the routing as shown and all other options involve violating the LOA. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that when the facility management found out about the problem, it was corrected.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR ALLEGES THE STARS ARE NOT UPDATED IN THE COMPUTER WITH THE AMENDMENT NUMBERS. RPTR CLAIMS THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE THE INFO IS AVAILABLE AND THAT OTHER OPTIONS INVOLVE VIOLATING THE LOA.
Narrative: THIS SIT DOES NOT INVOLVE A PARTICULAR ACFT OR OCCURRENCE BUT RATHER A CHANGE, BY FAA MGMNT, OF THE INFO AVAILABLE FOR THE AIR TFC CTLR TO DO ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF HIS JOB. ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MY PARTICULAR AREA OF SPECIALIZATION IS THAT ACFT DESTINED FOR MAJOR NE ARPTS MUST BE PUT ON THE PROPER ROUTING. THIS 'PROPER ROUTING' INVOLVES THE ISSUANCE OF A STAR AND THESE STARS HAVE AMENDMENT NUMBERS AT THE END, SUCH AS MACEY 1. EVIDENTLY, IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE WORK, MGMNT DECIDED THAT THEY WOULD NOT UPDATE THE STAR NUMBER IN THE ONLY PLACE THIS INFO IS AVAILABLE TO ME -- THE COMPUTER. I CANNOT ISSUE THE ROUTING AS SHOWN AND ALL OTHER OPTIONS INVOLVE VIOLATING THE LOA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT WHEN THE FACILITY MGMNT FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROB, IT WAS CORRECTED.
