Narrative:

While in level flight at FL280 northbound on A300, we received a TA followed shortly by an RA. The other aircraft was +400 ft sbound. No visual. We followed the TCASII instructions and descended to FL277. ATC and dispatch were both notified. The other sbound aircraft was level at FL284 which caused a TCASII RA.

Title: AN ACR B727 FLC REACTS PROPERLY TO AN 'RA' AND EVADES FROM ANOTHER 400 FT ABOVE THEM IN A HEAD-ON PASS ON AN AIRWAY. THEY NOTIFIED THE ARTCC CTLR OF THEIR ACTION AND THE OTHER ACFT'S PRESENCE.
