Narrative:
Lear while in a descent was cleared to 8000 ft. When level at 8000 ft ZNY queried us as to what altitude we were cleared as did approach/tower into elmira. There appeared to be confusion or disagreement as to what altitude we were cleared while on the visual approach and descent.

Title: ARTCC CTLR, AND THE SUBSEQUENT APCH CTLR, QUERIED THE FLC OF A LEAR 25D, REGARDING THEIR ASSIGNED DSCNT ALT. THE FLC BELIEVED THAT THEY WERE AT THE CORRECT ALT AND WERE CONTINUED ON WITHOUT ANY DELAY OR FURTHER COMMENT.
Narrative: LEAR WHILE IN A DSCNT WAS CLRED TO 8000 FT. WHEN LEVEL AT 8000 FT ZNY QUERIED US AS TO WHAT ALT WE WERE CLRED AS DID APCH/TWR INTO ELMIRA. THERE APPEARED TO BE CONFUSION OR DISAGREEMENT AS TO WHAT ALT WE WERE CLRED WHILE ON THE VISUAL APCH AND DSCNT.
