Narrative:
Airspace incursion, msn class C, caused by filing C29 direct msn, msn direct mke, and mke direct msn IFR, but electing to fly C29 direct msn leg VFR. C29 is under shelf of msn class C and, flying into msn after notifying the controller inbound with ATIS, realized that altitude VFR en route penetrated shelf/upper layer of class C. Corrected by notification and flying remaining legs as filed, IFR. Contributing factor: the one VFR leg flown after 10 days IFR only and having originally filed IFR this leg, too.
