Narrative:
During approach to msp from eau we were being vectored to runway 29R. First officer was flying, around 25 mi east of msp we were given a 240 degree heading at 7000 ft. At 18 mi east of msp we called airport in sight. The controller stated following an SF340 on final runway 29R, turn left 180 degree heading, descend to 6000 ft. At 20 mi given a 240 degree heading descend to 4000 ft at 170 KTS. At no time did the controller mention any traffic other than the SF340 on final. Shortly after the 240 degree heading was given a 290 degree heading was assigned and cleared for the visual to runway 29R. At around 5000 ft we got a TA on TCASII. I switched to the 5 mi scale and looked in the direction of the traffic, to see a DC9 who was lined up for runway 29L. At the same time the controller calls traffic less than 1 mi. The DC9 appeared to pitch up as we increased our descent to 2500 FPM. As we rolled out we were on a 315 degree heading and 1 DOT left of runway 29R localizer. We realigned with runway 29R and landed without any further incident. I feel the controller vectored us too close to the final approach course to provide a normal turn onto final and definitely did not provide proper aircraft separation prior to giving the visual approach clearance.

Title: BA3100 FLC IS VECTORED FOR FINAL AND HAS TCASII ALERT ACTIVATE INDICATING TFC LESS THAN 1 MI FOR LNDG ON THE PARALLEL RWY. THEN CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH AS THE TFC PULLS UP.
