Narrative:

Due to many last min distrs we departed on a transcontinental flight with the center fuel boost pumps off. Fortunately, we caught it en route, without incident. As a result, I suggested to our company that they modify the before takeoff checklist so as to verify the need for center fuel tank boost pumps. It appears they are taking my suggestion seriously. This should be on before takeoff checklists for all airlines, as an undetected failure to turn on center fuel pumps could result in a flameout. The purpose of this is advisory.

Title: B737-400 ACFT, FLC FOUND THE CTR FUEL BOOST PUMPS OFF IN CRUISE. RPTR CAPT ADVISES THAT FUEL BOOST PUMPS SHOULD BE ON BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. FUEL TANK SETUP IS ON BEFORE START CHKLIST AND ANY TANK WITH FUEL SHOULD HAVE BOOST PUMPS ON THEN.
