Narrative:

The aircraft had the flap position indication on captain side placarded. The MFDU alert read 'flap position compartment' and the aircraft logbook had an MEL authority/authorized number for the placard. The MEL actually read flap position indication and was not for the flap position compartment. The airspeed indications on the captain's side were missing V1, V2, vsel, flap retract, green DOT, barber poll, alpha floor as well as stall floor. Since the item was placarded and an authority/authorized number present and the inbound captain's brief was the barber poll was missing, and that was all, I assumed the aircraft was legal when in fact it was not.
