Narrative:
Inbound to byp, was given vectors for spacing and WX. Then cleared on heading to rejoin the arrival. I failed to reset the course to the outbound radial and did not make the turn toward the airport. ATC and I caught the error at the same time and turned left to rejoin. No conflict that I am aware of. This arrival has recently been changed to be flown off byp VOR rather than inbound to dfw VOR. Being able to switch over to the dfw VOR and tracking it inbound might have lessened the likelihood of missing the turn.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC FORGOT TO FOLLOW THEIR STAR'S COURSE AFTER A SERIES OF VECTORS AND A CLRNC BACK ONTO THE ARR. THE ALERT CTLR AND THE FLC DISCOVER THE ERROR AT THE SAME TIME AND THEY RETURN TO THE PROPER TRACK. NO CONFLICT.
Narrative: INBOUND TO BYP, WAS GIVEN VECTORS FOR SPACING AND WX. THEN CLRED ON HDG TO REJOIN THE ARR. I FAILED TO RESET THE COURSE TO THE OUTBOUND RADIAL AND DID NOT MAKE THE TURN TOWARD THE ARPT. ATC AND I CAUGHT THE ERROR AT THE SAME TIME AND TURNED L TO REJOIN. NO CONFLICT THAT I AM AWARE OF. THIS ARR HAS RECENTLY BEEN CHANGED TO BE FLOWN OFF BYP VOR RATHER THAN INBOUND TO DFW VOR. BEING ABLE TO SWITCH OVER TO THE DFW VOR AND TRACKING IT INBOUND MIGHT HAVE LESSENED THE LIKELIHOOD OF MISSING THE TURN.
