Narrative:
On the previous leg (atl-mco) #3 engine was difficult to start due to an RPM rollback after starter cutout. I shut the engine down to avoid an overtemp. The second start attempt was successful. Leaving mco, multiple start attempts on #3 engine were unsuccessful. After waiting 5 mins to allow the starter to cool, engines #1 and #2 throttles were advanced to provide increased starter #3 air flow, the aircraft was pointed into the wind and the start was successful. I felt that a logbook write-up was necessary so I recommended that to the captain. He initially agreed but later decided the write-up might delay the next flight. Upon arrival in atl I saw the next so and told him that my captain would verbally brief him of our difficulties starting engine #3. I am submitting this report since I feel the omission of a write-up reduced safety.

Title: AN L1011 EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE START ATTEMPTS ON #3 ENG TO AVOID OVERTEMPING THE ENG BUT NO LOG ENTRY WAS MADE OF THE START PROB.
Narrative: ON THE PREVIOUS LEG (ATL-MCO) #3 ENG WAS DIFFICULT TO START DUE TO AN RPM ROLLBACK AFTER STARTER CUTOUT. I SHUT THE ENG DOWN TO AVOID AN OVERTEMP. THE SECOND START ATTEMPT WAS SUCCESSFUL. LEAVING MCO, MULTIPLE START ATTEMPTS ON #3 ENG WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. AFTER WAITING 5 MINS TO ALLOW THE STARTER TO COOL, ENGS #1 AND #2 THROTTLES WERE ADVANCED TO PROVIDE INCREASED STARTER #3 AIR FLOW, THE ACFT WAS POINTED INTO THE WIND AND THE START WAS SUCCESSFUL. I FELT THAT A LOGBOOK WRITE-UP WAS NECESSARY SO I RECOMMENDED THAT TO THE CAPT. HE INITIALLY AGREED BUT LATER DECIDED THE WRITE-UP MIGHT DELAY THE NEXT FLT. UPON ARR IN ATL I SAW THE NEXT SO AND TOLD HIM THAT MY CAPT WOULD VERBALLY BRIEF HIM OF OUR DIFFICULTIES STARTING ENG #3. I AM SUBMITTING THIS RPT SINCE I FEEL THE OMISSION OF A WRITE-UP REDUCED SAFETY.
