Narrative:

Cross country VFR flight from cae to hxd pilotage/dead reckoning. Thunderstorms started rapid development causing quick deviations east of course. After approximately 45 mins of deviation realized we were lost and needed to land because WX was closing in quickly. Contacted beaufort approach 118.45 for vectors and they could not see us. Contacted chs approach and realized we were very near the chs airport. Got radar vectors to chs and landed right before WX closed in. In all the vectoring I could have entered the class C airspace of chs before making communications with them.
