Narrative:
Captain flying. Cleared from FL350 to FL240. Captain descended through FL240 to FL233. Immediately climbed back to FL240. There were no traffic conflicts. Supplemental information from acn 375050: at FL250 ATC asked when we could turn north, first officer answered that we were in turn north. ATC gave heading and then clearance to reintercept, which I did not understand. I asked first officer to repeat clearance to me as I was looking at the arrival (printed page) on the yoke. At this time we were giving a new heading. This is a case of too much information at one time. I descended through FL240 and recovered at FL234, climbed back to FL240.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF AN LGT OVERSHOT DSCNT CLRNC ON A STAR ARR DUE TO DISTR OF WX AVOIDANCE, REVIEW OF STAR AND RECEIVING FURTHER CLRNC THROUGH FO FROM ATC. HE RECOGNIZED HIS OWN ERROR AND RETURNED TO ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: CAPT FLYING. CLRED FROM FL350 TO FL240. CAPT DSNDED THROUGH FL240 TO FL233. IMMEDIATELY CLBED BACK TO FL240. THERE WERE NO TFC CONFLICTS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 375050: AT FL250 ATC ASKED WHEN WE COULD TURN N, FO ANSWERED THAT WE WERE IN TURN N. ATC GAVE HDG AND THEN CLRNC TO REINTERCEPT, WHICH I DID NOT UNDERSTAND. I ASKED FO TO REPEAT CLRNC TO ME AS I WAS LOOKING AT THE ARR (PRINTED PAGE) ON THE YOKE. AT THIS TIME WE WERE GIVING A NEW HDG. THIS IS A CASE OF TOO MUCH INFO AT ONE TIME. I DSNDED THROUGH FL240 AND RECOVERED AT FL234, CLBED BACK TO FL240.
